The Bruxie Story:

February 06, 2019

Chicken and Waffles is a combination of sweet and savory.  For most people who are hearing about this combination for the first time might cringe about the mix... but this combination has been a soul food staple and started to spread through the United States in the 1930s.  In the 1970s the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffle in Los Angeles made this dish main stream and popular all around the US and to the world.  Now we even have it spread out to Korea!

Today, I got to visit Bruxie located in Gangnam Finance Center.  Gangnam Finance Center or GFC is located right next to Yeoksam Station.  As mentioned in my Tomatillo post, GCF is the Korean HQ office building for Nike, Disney, and Google!  Downstairs on the B1 and B2 levels GFC houses many different restaurants for all the workers and people who work or want to eat in the area!  Bruxie is located on B1 in the corner next to the escalators.

When you enter Bruxie you are welcomed with the ordering area and their menu.  Inside they had plenty of seating, good for groups, dates, and for single eaters.  I had gone at 8pm on the weekday, and because most of the workers had gone home there was plenty of seating.  They had art decorations and their cute chicken/waffle logo placed on the walls as well.  In the back they had a open kitchen, where smells of fried goodness came out from.

Their menu was quite extensive for being a chicken and waffle place.  They had chicken and waffle sandwiches, bun sandwiches, chicken tenders, fried chicken and waffles, egg and waffle sandwiches, waffle cut fries, salads, sweet waffles, and ice cream.  After looking at the menu and salivating... I had decided to order their 4tenders + fries (7,900won), of course their 2pieces + waffle (10,900won), and their Irish nachos (6,900won).

**Side-note if you like to drink beer... this place let’s you have one FREE refill on your beer.  (Literally, never heard of one free refill on beer before).  Definitely a great deal.

The Food Ordered At Bruxie:

4 Tenders+Fries

Price: 7,900won

Taste:  There’s a meme about tenders that goes, “The default meal when you don’t know what to get on the menu.”  Tenders are a safe choice and usually always good... Bruxies was the same.  The chicken was juicy and seasoned well.  The chicken tenders were decent tender size, but the meals itself was pretty small.  They only gave a handful of fries... however, the fries were waffle fries which was a plus.  The tenders came with a side of white sauce... which tasted kind of like tarter sauce.  It sounds weird, but it tasted pretty good.  I had also asked for a side of bbq sauce and they had couple of different hot sauces on deck!

2 Piece+Waffle

Price: 10,900won

Taste:  The 2Pieces + waffle was delicious.  The chicken looked like 2 chicken breast pounded down, seasoned, and deep fried.  There was a light syrup drizzled over the chicken.  The chicken tasted as delicious as the tenders... the syrup gave the sweet taste and the chicken seasoning gave the salty balance.  They give you 2, 1/4th pieces of waffles... once again small portions... but the waffles were really good.  I personally don’t like waffles or pancakes (any sweet breakfast foods), but the waffles were light and airy.  They kind of melted in your mouth.  Bruxie topped the waffles with powered sugar and gave you an extra side of syrup.

Irish Nachos

Price:  6,900won

Taste:  The Irish Nachos was a very simple dish.  It was their waffle cut fries as the base... they poured on cheese sauce, sour cream, and then topped it off with chives.  It tasted good, but it wasn’t anything spectacular... just good bar food that paired really well with the extra free refill of beer (hahaha).

Bottom Line

Bottom line, the food was good.  The chicken was seasoned and cooked nicely and the taste coming from it was excellent.  My only gripe was that the portions were on the smaller side.
