The Cuchara Story :
October 03, 2018
Today I went to one of my favorite places to eat in Korea... Cuchara. Cuchara is a copycat restaurant of one of my favorite chains in America, Chipotle, which naturally made me love it. The menu, food, toppings, and inside deco are copied to a tee. They literally Control+C Control+V Chipotle to Korea and that is how Cuchara was born. Cuchara has been gaining so much popularity that less then a year after their first location opened in Gangnam, they opened up another location in Hapejong.
For people who have never been to Cuchara you first pick the type of food you want; Burrito, Burrito Bowl, Tacos, or a Salad. Then you can choose the protein; chicken, steak, tofu, chorizo, al pastor, or carnitas. After that can you customize your food with any type of toppings they have and if you pay extra you can get guacamole also!
I have been to Cuchara many times, but it was my friends first time coming so we decided to grab a burrito, taco, and a burrito bowl. I personally love the chicken. At only 6,900won that is a steal. The chicken has a good marinade and a flame grilled taste to it. I have also tried their steak, carnitas, and al pastor and they are all great!
Cuchara works as an assembly line. Each station you get to pick and choose what you want on your food. At the Gangnam location, if it's not busy the workers are pretty nice and you can ask them to give you a little extra of the food item. Cuchara is the biggest idea stealer of all time... but me and my belly are so happy they did!
The Food Ordered At Cuchara:
Taste: The chicken burrito was solid. The chicken was cooked nicely, and it wasn't overcooked or chewy. In the burrito I decided to go with white rice, tomato salsa, hot salsa, corn salsa, romaine lettuce, and cheese. Burritos in Korea are smaller than in the US, and while Cuchara is no different... they are at least on the larger side for Korea.
Taste: For the Steak Tacos, the steak was cooked and season nicely. It was cut into small squares and gave a nice juice taste when you bit into it. On the tacos I decided to go with tomato salsa, corn salsa, hot salsa, romaine lettuce, sour cream, and cheese. The salsas with the sour cream combined for a perfect combo of sauces. With one order of tacos you get 3 pretty good sized and delicious tacos.
Chicken Burrito Bowl
Taste: The Burrito Bowl is also something many people like to order because you can mix everything in the bowl before eating it. Also, if you are on a low-carb diet you can forgo the tortilla. For the burrito bowl my friend went with brown rice, black beans, tomato salsa, hot salsa, corn salsa, romaine lettuce, sour cream, and cheese.
The two draw backs of Cuchara for me is the tortilla and rice. The worker didn’t warm press the tortilla long enough so it wasn’t soft and warm. Also, the rice is not as good as the cilantro lime rice at Chipotle. Other then that, I LOVE IT. This place is a damn good copy cat of Chipotle. If you have never tried Cuchara or Chipotle I would highly recommend you to go there! It won’t be the best Mexican food...but it’s so simple and the ingredients mixed together is just symphony.
