The Lawry's Story:

March 04, 2019

Lawry's was established in 1938 in Beverly Hills, California.  They are known for their Prime Rib dish which is carved to order and served table side from their famous metal carts.  They opened up other locations around the United States and slowly in other parts of the world.  On November 01, 2013 they opened the Gangnam location.  Lawry's is one of my favorite spots to eat in both Los Angeles and in Seoul.  Their slow cooked prime rib is perfection.  With it they pair it with creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, and Yorkshire pudding.   This meal is just heavenly.

Lawry's Korea is located in Gangnam’s GT Tower.  Lawry's is located on the 4th floor.  The GT tower is elegant outside and inside. Outside is a beautiful glass building, that look like blue mirror panels.  Inside the GT tower is modern and simplistic.  The elevator leads you directly into the Lawry's lobby.

The restaurant is mixed with an mostly old English and hints of modern style.  A worker will lead you to an huge dining area.  Inside you see old English paintings and plenty of seating.  There is a full bar at the back left side of the dining area.  In the middle they have a buffet (More on this later).

Prime rib is from the area of the cow behind its shoulder, at the primal rib part of the animal.  This is where the cut of meat gets its name.  It includes some of the most tender parts of beef.  Lawry's offers many different cuts of prime rib (Gangnam Cut 100g [only offered during lunch], California 170g, English 185g, Lawry's 280g, Diamond Jim Brady 450g, Beef Bowl Cut 620g). The bigger the size of the cut they more expensive the cost is.  For people who don’t like prime rib Lawry's also offer Steaks, Seafood, Pasta, and appetizers.

In the middle of the dining area they have a huge buffet that comes with your meal!  The Beverly Hills, Los Angeles branch do not have this.  Not going to lie, this buffet is pretty legit.  They have a variety of selection ranging from soups, salads, pasta, chicken, and more!

Pro tip: The first time I came here I didn’t know about the middle buffet area and ordered a big cut of prime rib.  I was so full from the prime rib that I couldn’t enjoy the delicious buffet.  Now I order the smallest cut of prime rib and eat the delicious buffet.  You get the best of both worlds.  Keep in mind of the buffet when ordering your meal!

The Food Ordered At Lawry's:

Gangnam Cut

Price:  38,000won (Prices changes from weekdays and weekends)

Taste:  The prime rib is always delicious.  I had ordered my dish medium, but the meal was more medium rare.  The meat was very tender.  This time oddly... I didn’t think the meat was seasoned as well as they normally do.  However, I just salted the prime rib and it was good.  I have never got a cut as small as the Gangnam Cut before (I usually opt for the English or Lawry’s Cut).  As long as you understand it’s only 100g of meat, the meal is great.  All the sides were perfect.  The cream corn was creamy and sweet.  It is everything you expect in cream corn, delicious creaminess.  The Creamed spinach was just as creamy as the corn and cooked nicely.  The mashed potatoes and gravy was tasty.   Finally, you had the flaky Yorkshire pudding.  I mopped up the gravy and au jus sauce with the delicious pastry when I was done with my meal.

The Buffet

Price:  Included with the meal

Taste:  All the food was cooked well.  I personally enjoyed their pasta dishes and their Asian dishes.  Like mentioned before they offer soups, salads, pasta, chicken, and more!  They also have deserts and coffee.  Their buffet menu does change around so some of the items might not be the same.

Bottom Line

Bottom line, I am a huge Prime Rib fan and I like Lawry's.  They have a killer lunch deal... a meal being paired with a buffet!  A deal which I am going to be taking more advantage of from now on.  Their service and atmosphere isn't anything special you find at most fine dining restaurants but its still adequate.  Overall I am a fan.
